Description: COVID 19, an unprecedented global crisis, has posed numerous ethical challenges. In the last few months, we have experienced dramatic shifts in how we meet the needs of our clients. Some of the broad dilemmas we’ve had to address include transitioning to telehealth or not, back to in-person or not; public, private, and essential health; client abandonment; treatment triage; boundary shifts; licensing, HIPPA, consent; and many other nuanced issues related to providing care.
Ethical practice is a way of recognizing and thoughtfully resolving, to the best of one’s ability, the inevitable conflicts that arise in our work. Decision making can be fraught with uncertainty, perhaps even shame, as we work through the options. Laws and codes typically give us some structure but these are not normal circumstances; even our regulating bodies have had to adapt the guidelines for practice. We’re still adapting, our perspectives are still in flux.
In this discussion and experiential based workshop series, we’ll explore the issues we’re facing, the decisions we’re making, and the implications for future practice. Simple self nurture activities will be integrated.
